Almeida Coval

Almeida Coval was born in in the district of Viseu, Portugal in 1955. His mother was Portuguese and his father was descended from British ancestry. Although he showed artistic talent at a very early age his parents did not encourage him, in what they thought be a financially unsatisfactory career. Driven by his passion for art, he went against their wishes and enrolled in art school, fine tuning his natural born talent. Coval studied the traditional “Old Masters”, but he was particularly drawn to the 19th century school of Impressionism.  His first exhibition was held with great acclaim in 1973, at the Palacio Valencia in Sintra, where he has lived most of his life. It is here in Sintra that Coval finds his inspiration for his oil paintings and water colors. He considers Sintra to be “a paradise on Earth”. In the year 2000, Almeida Coval was given a private audience with His Holiness Pope John II. Coval presented the Pontiff with a painting of “Fatima”. After looking at the painting, the Pope said to Coval, “your paintings are a gift to humanity!”.  This special moment will always be a treasured memory for Coval. This gifted artist has exhibited not only in Portugal, but also in Spain, Switzerland, France and England. Art lovers throughout Europe have proudly added his paintings to their collections. Today, Coval has his atelier in his beloved Sintra, where he is also a Master Teacher at the International Art School of Sintra. Now in 2012, for the very first time, his superb artworks are also available to art lovers and collectors here in the United States
