About the artist
Elisabeth qualified in Typography and Graphic Communication at Reading University (1978-82). She has loved drawing and painting all her life, but has found more time to devote to this over the last few years. The graphic training gives Elisabeth's work enormous impact through balance, composition and graphic strength.
When Elisabeth paints she gets totally immersed in the subject. She starts painting when she has a strong passionate feeling for the subject matter, starting with a few quick preparatory sketches to establish composition, tonal values and heighten attention to detail - then goes for it! The process is fast and furious, painting instinctively and capturing the energy of the moment. The line is loose, unpredictable and irregular. It is this flowing, sheer enjoyment of mark making and instinctive reaction to the colours and shapes as they evolve that gives the pictures their personality.
